Our story
I'm Jeff Renfrew, and I've been a butcher for over 25 years, and I still love it as much as I did on day one!
It started with a diploma in agriculture, where I studied livestock, land management and animal nutrition before completing a four-year apprenticeship under a master butcher. From there my career took me through processing facilities, running my own butcher shops and teaching the trade at TAFE.
Working inside the industry, I saw firsthand how craft gets traded for convenience and it never sat right with me. So I built Farmstead around a simple belief: that everyday Aussie families deserve access to clean meat that's been raised properly, at a price that actually makes sense.

I'd watched the industry drift toward convenience over quality for years. Supermarket meat is processed in huge batches, stored, shipped and often frozen, and high-volume operations simply can't afford to age and prepare meat the way a master butcher would.
At Farmstead we do things differently. We only work with grass-fed, grass-finished beef because we believe the way an animal lives comes through in the meat giving it a beefier, more natural flavour than grain-fed.
Every cut is aged up to 14 days, allowing the meat to develop a richer, deeper flavour. From there my butchers portion and pack everything fresh, ready for your door where you’ll receive it fresh, never frozen.
When meat is raised right and handled properly, the difference is something you can taste.
